Web Design/SEO Rates & Terms

You may be wondering
why I charge so much less than my
competition. The answer is because I am one woman, working from
home... I don't have to pay salaries for executives, sales people, a
technical and design staff, or secretaries. I'd find a way to charge
unnecessary monthly fees too, if I had that kind of overhead. And WATCH OUT
for SEO companies who want to charge you monthly to submit your site
repeatedly, claiming you need this service to stay listed in the
results.
Google says:
"...the vast majority of sites listed in
our results aren't manually submitted for inclusion, but found and added
automatically when our spiders crawl the web."

My Rates & Terms:
-
$100 Hourly
-
For web design and/or search
engine optimization, I have a $1,000 minimum fee per website, and require
it paid upfront as a retainer to get started. The retainer includes 10 hours of web design and/or
basic search engine optimization (up to 10 hrs @ $100 = $1,000). Any additional hours
will be invoiced at $100 hourly due upon
completion, or in 10 hour increments, which ever comes first.

My specialty is local / regional SEO,
and I am best suited for small to medium size businesses looking for
information based websites to increase their sales via a web presence,
but who can't justify a full time webmaster. I can assist you with EVERYTHING you need
from start to finish, like choosing the best domain name, establishing
web hosting, and installing web site analytics for evaluating your
traffic and conversion ratios. I know 1 Shopping Cart and PayPal really well, for the development of small to medium
e-commerce sites, and can install client database marketing tools like:
Autoresponders, Up-sell Modules, Coupon and Ad Tracking and Statistics, Affiliate
Programs with sales and commission reports, Email Broadcasting and
campaigns, Mailing List and Anti-Spam management,
Client Questionnaires, Tell-a-Friend scripts, and more.
I've found if I
design a website from scratch, it takes approximately 1.5 to 2
hours per page, and that the average $1,000 job will yield
around 5-7 pages. Of course, the more you help by providing
logos, graphics, and textual content, the faster it is for me
to finish, and you could potentially get several more pages
for my minimum web design fee.
Search Engine Optimization
Includes:
- Keyword Analysis:
I start with in-depth research of your site's
keywords,
using four keyword finder tools (Google, Overture/Yahoo,
WordTracker, and Keyword Discovery). This allows me to
suggest a comprehensive list of target keywords, based on
popularity, that will be the focus of your site's
optimization. Effective search engine marketing requires
targeting the actual search phrases being used by consumers.
The keyword analysis also tells us what other, if any, pages
or content will need to be created. Each major category, or
area of focus, should have it's own page, linked from the
home page, via a text based hyperlink containing the target
phrase for the linked to page.
- Meta-Tags Creation:
Next, I write and install unique meta-tags for every page.
This creates the foundation for your site and sets it up for
the best possible submission to the search engines. I focus
on making the description and title tag relevant to the
content on each page.
- Content Optimization:
Then I create any additional pages that your website may
require, as discovered in the keyword analysis. I will ask
you to provide me with this content, which I will then
edit/optimize. I will also edit/optimize the content of
every existing webpage to ensure it contains the proper
keyword density needed to rank on its own for its target
phrases... i.e. the blue widget page for "blue widgets", and
the green widget page for "green widgets". If more content
is required, I will ask you to provide it. I will also make
sure the content on each page validates what is advertised
in the meta-tags, and I have my own unique system for doing
this. This is the stage where I will add any missing
optimization elements to your site, and set it up for the
best possible chance of ranking high, including evaluating
and adjusting your navigation/link structure if need be.
- Image Alt Text:
I make sure all your images have descriptive, keyworded
sentences behind them.
- Search Engine
Submission:
For new sites that have not yet
been crawled and indexed, I submit each of your pages to the major
search engines,
including
Google, Yahoo Web Results, MSN, EntireWeb, Exact Seek, AOL,
Earthlink, Netscape, AllTheWeb, Alta Vista, Lycos. A one time submission
is all that's necessary.
Google on Site Submission
- Establishing One-Way
Links: I will email you suggestions for obtaining
quality one-way incoming links, which are a crucial part of
the optimization process. I STRONGLY suggest you join a
one-way-links program that I will send you information on,
that is only $150 per year, and will get you approximately
200 one-way incoming links (as of Jan. 1, 2008 - continually
growing). This program is overseen by an industry expert,
who happens to rank #1 on Google for "one way links". He
monitors the program for quality assurance, with strict
compliance guidelines, which keeps anyone from joining that
is using black-hat tactics. This should be the only links
program you need. I will also send you a list of the top
directories to get listed in, for your review. Some are
free, and others have fees. It will be up to you to take
action. Just to be clear, I do not offer linking services.
Frequently Asked SEO
Questions:
Should I have my site
designed, and then come to you for optimization?
If you do not want me to
design your site, you should at least have me consult with
your web designer. Optimization starts with design. For
example, if your main keyword phrase is "blue widget dallas",
you want to use it when naming your pages. This is so that the
page urls will include keywords, as this is one of the places
the search engines look for keywords to establish relevance.
For example: Instead of naming your About Us page
about_us.html, you would want to name it
about-dallas-blue-widget-company.html... and to use dashes
instead of underscores to separate the words. As you can see,
this page you are reading is named
search-engine-optimization.htm, so the url is:
http://www.thetruthnetwork.com/search-engine-optimization.htm
Once the site has been optimized, how long does it take to
get ranked?
Getting ranked can take anywhere from 30-45 days, up to a year
or more. It depends on how competitive your targeted keywords
are. Here is some info. about Google and the ranking of NEW
websites:
Sandbox Filter - The Sandbox theory, or Sandbox effect
as it has become known in the SEO world, is a dampening filter
that is applied to new websites. It usually lasts for between
six months and a year from the site's launch date. It's not
unusual for a new website to enter the SERPs (search engine
results pages), for a couple of weeks and then drop out of the
search engine rankings completely, so if it happens to your
new website - don't panic!
Does the Google Sandbox filter really exist?
The Sandbox theory seems to be particularly apparent when a
website's keyword phrases are fairly high profile and
difficult to optimize for, such as playstation games, personal
loans, search engine optimization, credit cards, SEO, etc.
Although the sandbox effect is more obvious on a website with
products and services with high searched for keyphrases, it
seems that most sites appear to suffer from the Sandbox
effect, to some extent, irrespective of the keywords or the
number and quality of incoming links from other websites.
Although the Google sandbox effect is merely a theory, it is a
theory that 75% of webmasters and search engine optimization
professionals believe is a filter in the Google algorithm.
The sandbox filter would appear to be designed to discourage
spam websites, short term websites and to put short term link
renters out of business.
If your site is new and
cannot rank high in highly competitive keywords, it may solely
be because other websites are more established in the search
engines. For example, they have a higher PageRank, more
inbound links, more content, etc. Therefore, you should put
effort into link building and content optimization.
Eventually, you will see your website's rankings rise.
How long does a site stay optimized?
The type of optimization I do, which is organic/on-page
optimization lasts forever. It is setting up the site
STRUCTURE to have the best chance of ranking high. Usually
once a site starts ranking well, it stays that way, and
doesn't need to have much done to it... maybe some tweaks to
the meta-tags and page content a couple times per year. This
does not mean though, that you do not need to do anything else
to help your site. I HIGHLY recommend hiring a company to help
you establish QUALITY, one way incoming
links (not a link exchange program).
Are there any monthly services that are needed to keep a
site optimized?
No, not on my end. But again, I HIGHLY recommend hiring a
company to help you establish QUALITY, one way incoming
links (not a link exchange program).
